  • Australia are aiming to become the first nation to hold all three global cricket titles simultaneously.

Marcus Stoinis led Australia to a 39-run victory over Oman in their T20 World Cup opener on Wednesday, showcasing his all-around brilliance with both bat and ball.

Stoinis smashed a game-changing 67 not out off just 36 balls, powering Australia to a competitive total of 164-5. He then returned to take three wickets for 19 runs, restricting Oman to 125-9 in reply.

David Warner also played a crucial role, scoring a half-century to provide stability to the Australian innings. Warner's innings propelled him beyond former captain Aaron Finch as Australia's top run-getter in T20 Internationals.

Oman made a promising start with the early dismissal of Travis Head followed by the wickets of Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell off successive balls.

However, Australia's experience and competitive know-how saw them through that tricky period, as they made a winning start to their campaign to become the first nation to hold all three global cricket titles - Test, One-Day and T20 - simultaneously.

Mitchell Starc, Nathan Ellis, and Adam Zampa also contributed with wickets, while Oman captain Aqib Ilyas praised his team's bowlers for their performance.

Stoinis' six sixes, including four in a single over off Mehran Khan, proved to be the decisive factor in Australia's victory.

The 2021 champions were able to more than double their total over the last six overs of the innings, thanks to Stoinis' aggressive batting.

Australia will now face Sri Lanka in their next match on Saturday, while Oman will take on Ireland.

The T20 World Cup is the premier international cricket tournament for men, held every two years. It features 16 teams competing in a round-robin format, followed by a knockout stage.
