Rahul Dravid to Step Down as Indian Cricket Team Coach After 2024 T20 World Cup
  • Rahul Dravid confirms 2024 T20 World Cup as his last assignment with team India.
  • Dravid won't re-apply for the coach position after his contract ends on June 29, 2024.
  • India aims to win an ICC trophy as a farewell gift to the coach.

Rahul Dravid, the current coach of the Indian cricket team, has announced that the 2024 T20 World Cup will be his last assignment with the national team.

Dravid, who has been the head coach of the side since 2021, said he won't be re-applying for the post once his contract expires on June 29, 2024.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already advertised for the top post, with the new coach taking over from July 1.

Dravid made the announcement ahead of India's first match against Ireland at the T20 World Cup 2024.

When asked if this tournament held more significance as it was his last one in charge of the team, Dravid said, "Every tournament is important. Every game that I've coached for India has been very important for me. So for me this is no different just because it is going to be the last one that I'm in charge of."

Dravid also spoke about India's opening combination, saying, "We have Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Virat Kohli can open, he opened in IPL so everything is on cards".

Dravid was appointed as the coach of the Indian cricket team in November 2021, following the T20 World Cup that year.

He has enjoyed a successful tenure so far, leading the team to victories in the Asia Cup and the inaugural ICC World Test Championship.

However, India has yet to win an ICC trophy under Dravid's leadership.

The team will be aiming to change that at the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be Dravid's last assignment with the national team.
