Prashant Kishor's Lok Sabha Prediction Proven Wrong
  • Election strategist Prashant Kishor admits his Lok Sabha election prediction was wrong.
  • His prediction of BJP's seat tally being close to 303 was off by 20%.
  • Kishor acknowledges there was no widespread discontent against Modi.

Prashant Kishor, the renowned election strategist, has conceded that his assessment of the Lok Sabha election results was inaccurate.

Prior to the June 4th election results, Kishor had predicted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would secure a seat tally close to or even surpassing its 2019 tally of 303.

However, the actual results painted a contrasting picture, with the BJP's seat tally dropping to 240, a significant decrease from the previous election.

In an interview with India Today, Kishor candidly admitted that both he and other pollsters had erred in their predictions.

He acknowledged that his projections had 'significantly missed the mark' in key areas, particularly in underestimating the BJP's loss of seats.

Kishor attributed this miscalculation to a lack of widespread discontent against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a factor that he had not fully anticipated.

Furthermore, he noted that there was no 'positive clamour' from the opposition, which contributed to the status quo being maintained, albeit with some geographical expansion in the east and south.

Despite the setback, Kishor emphasized that his assessment was not entirely incorrect, as the BJP's vote share remained relatively stable at 36%.

However, he conceded that he had underestimated the magnitude of the BJP's decline in terms of seat tally.

Kishor's admission of error serves as a reminder of the inherent uncertainties involved in election predictions and the complexities of gauging public sentiment.
