Porsche Case: Father, Grandfather of Juvenile Booked in Suicide Abetment
  • Father and grandfather of juvenile involved in Porsche accident booked for abetment of businessman's son's suicide.
  • Also added cheating and common intention charges to the case.
  • Teen's grandfather approaches Bombay High Court, claiming wrongful detention and false implication.

The Pune police have filed charges against the father and grandfather of the juvenile involved in the May 19 Porsche car crash, and three others in a separate case related to the abetment of suicide of a businessman's son in the city.

The complaint was lodged by D S Kature, a construction business owner in Pune's Vadgaon Sheri vicinity, against Vinay Kale. Kature's son, Shashikant Kature, had borrowed money from Kale for construction.

According to authorities cited by PTI, Kale allegedly started adding compounding interest to the principal amount and harassing Shashikant Kature after he could not repay the loan on time. Fed up with the constant harassment, Shashikant Kature committed suicide in January this year.

A case was registered against Kale under IPC sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 506 (criminal intimidation) at the Chandannagar police station in the city.

During the investigation, the role of the juvenile's father (a builder), grandfather, and three others cropped up in the suicide case. We have now added sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC to the case, said a police officer without elaborating on their alleged role in the episode.

The minor's grandfather is presently detained by the judiciary for suspected involvement in the abduction and unlawful detention of their family chauffeur. The chauffeur was allegedly coerced into falsely confessing to the police that he was driving during the fatal accident.

The 17-year-old's father, Vishal Agarwal, a real estate developer, along with his mother, are currently held by the police in connection with a case concerning the swapping of the juvenile's blood samples. The incident took place in Kalyani Nagar, resulting in the deaths of two IT professionals after the Porsche car, allegedly driven by the minor, collided with their two-wheeler.

Meanwhile, the teen's grandfather on Thursday approached the Bombay High Court, through his lawyer Aashutosh Srivastava, with a writ petition, stating that he was wrongfully detained and falsely implicated in the case related to kidnapping and wrongful confinement of their family driver, PTI reported.

The petition argued that the investigating authorities, acting solely on accusations and a complaint submitted after an extensive five-day delay, initiated the case without adhering to the prescribed procedure outlined in section 42A of the CrPC against the 77-year-old senior citizen, who is the juvenile's grandfather. The plea highlighted that the driver, following his release around 11 pm on May 20 from the Yerawada police station after interrogation, was picked up by the petitioner, who is the teenager's grandfather.

Since he was frightened and devastated and there was a risk to his life, it was mutually decided by both the driver and the petitioner to go to the latter's home, said the plea. It stated the petitioner assured the safety and protection of the driver and his family.

The plea, calling the complaint by the driver as 'concocted and bogus' in regards to his alleged abduction and wrongful confinement, prayed the HC to direct the police to release the petitioner immediately, and also sought strict action against cops, PTI reported.
