NEET-UG 2024 Exam Sanctity Questioned, Supreme Court Issues Notice
  • NEET-UG exam allegedly leaked, Supreme Court seeks NTA response
  • NTA told to respond by July 8, counselling to continue
  • Petitioners seek exam cancellation due to compromised sanctity

The National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) exam, held for Under-Graduate (UG) Medical courses, has faced allegations of a paper leak, leading to the Supreme Court issuing a notice to the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah, has sought a response from the NTA by July 8. The petitioners, represented by Advocate Mathews J Nedumpara, have requested the cancellation of the exam, citing compromised sanctity.

Despite the allegations, the NTA's counsel requested that the petition be tagged along with an earlier petition, which is listed for July 8. The bench agreed and posted the present petition along with the earlier one. The petitioners sought a stay on the counselling, but the bench declined, allowing the counselling process to continue.

The writ petition, filed under Article 32 of the Constitution, seeks to direct the NTA to conduct a fresh exam due to the paper leak allegations. The petitioners have raised concerns about the sanctity of the exam held on May 5 and demand its cancellation.

On May 17, the Supreme Court had considered a similar petition and issued a notice to the NTA, but declined to stay the declaration of results. The bench, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, stated that the results of the pan-India exam could not be stayed.

The case, Shivangi Mishra and others v. National Testing Agency and others (DIARY NO. - 25656/2024), will be taken up by the Supreme Court on July 8, when the NTA is expected to file its response.
