Naidu Affirms TDP's Place in NDA Despite Poll Buzz
  • Chandrababu Naidu asserts TDP is part of NDA.
  • NDA meeting attended by key partners including Naidu.
  • Naidu and Nitish Kumar emerge as kingmakers.

Chandrababu Naidu, the influential leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), has unequivocally affirmed his party's continued membership in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). This assertion comes amidst speculation that opposition leaders may attempt to entice him into joining their fold as Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to form the NDA government this Saturday.

Naidu's declaration of support for the NDA was made following his attendance at a crucial meeting held at Prime Minister Modi's residence to discuss government formation. The meeting was attended by key NDA partners, including Naidu, who expressed his satisfaction with the proceedings. He emphasized the TDP's unwavering commitment to the NDA, questioning the rationale behind any doubts about their affiliation.

The recent Lok Sabha elections resulted in the BJP falling short of a majority, securing 240 seats in the 543-member Parliament. However, with the support of its allies, including the TDP, the NDA crossed the halfway mark of 272 seats, securing a total of 293 seats compared to the opposition INDIA bloc's 234. Naidu, along with Janata Dal United leader Nitish Kumar, both seasoned veterans in coalition politics, have emerged as kingmakers in this critical juncture.

Naidu and Kumar's participation in the NDA meeting signaled their support for the BJP ahead of Saturday's oath ceremony. It is understood that they have also provided written confirmation of their backing for Prime Minister Modi, amidst rumors that opposition leaders may approach them to stake a claim.

Other prominent NDA partners present at yesterday's meeting included Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde, JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy, Janasena's Pawan Kalyan, LJP's Chirag Paswan, and NCP's Praful Patel. The meeting culminated in the unanimous selection of PM Modi as the leader of the alliance.
