Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge has issued an appeal to the country's bureaucrats to serve the nation without fear or favor, especially in light of the upcoming counting of votes in the recently concluded elections.

Kharge's appeal comes on the heels of allegations made by senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had called up 150 district officers ahead of the counting of votes and attempted to intimidate them.

Kharge, in an open letter, urged bureaucrats to discharge their duties based on merit and without fear or favor, emphasizing the importance of the independence of institutions.

He reminded civil servants of their oath to faithfully discharge their duties and do right by all manner of people in accordance with the Constitution and the law.

Kharge's appeal extended to all bureaucrats and officers, regardless of their position in the hierarchy, calling upon them to discharge their duties without coercion, threat, pressure, or intimidation from any political party.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has asked Ramesh to provide evidence to support his allegations against Shah, while rejecting his request for more time to do so.

The Congress party has also dismissed the results of exit polls predicting a BJP victory, with three polls indicating that the NDA could cross the 400-seat mark.
