The Karnataka government has banned the release of the Bollywood film 'Hamare Baarah' for at least two weeks, citing concerns that it could trigger communal tensions. The decision was made under sections of the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) Act, 1964, after considering requests from several minority organizations and delegations who had watched the film's trailer.
The film, which stars Annu Kapoor, Manoj Joshi, Paritosh Tripathi, and Parth Samthaan, explores the issue of overpopulation, a theme that is rarely explored in Indian cinema. Earlier, the Bombay High Court lifted an injunction on the release of the film, which had been imposed just two days before its scheduled release.
