IMD Predicts Thunderstorms, Rain in Maharashtra Districts
  • IMD warns of thunderstorms, rain in Maharashtra districts.
  • Reduced rainfall intensity predicted from June 12 in Mumbai, Thane.
  • Southwest Monsoon advances into parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Mumbai has issued a warning regarding the likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and moderate spells of rain, along with gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph, in various districts of Maharashtra. These weather conditions are anticipated to affect Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Sangli, Beed, Jalna, Nasik, Pune, and Satara.

The IMD has predicted a decrease in rainfall intensity starting from June 12 in Mumbai, Thane, and other districts of Maharashtra. This follows the initial pre-monsoon showers and isolated heavy downpours experienced in these areas, providing respite from the oppressive heat and humidity.

The IMD's district-specific weather forecast indicates light to moderate rainfall in Mumbai and Thane until June 16. Other districts, including Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, are expected to receive moderate rainfall with occasional thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.

Several other districts of Maharashtra, such as Dhule, Jalgaon, Sangli, Solapur, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Nanded, Hingoli, Latur, Osmanabad, and Satara, are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall until June 16.

Additionally, districts like Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at isolated places until June 16.

The IMD has announced the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh as of June 12, 2024. Favorable conditions are expected for its further advance into some more parts of Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the northwest Bay of Bengal over the next 3–4 days.
