IIT Kharagpur Student Murder: Forensic Report Reveals Gunshot, Stab Wounds
  • IIT Kharagpur student Faizan Ahmed murdered.
  • Second forensic report reveals gunshot, stab wounds.
  • Cause of death may be injury to the back of head.

IIT Kharagpur student Faizan Ahmed was found dead in his hostel in October 2022, and a second forensic report has revealed that he was murdered and his neck showed signs of a gunshot wound and a stab wound.

The second post-mortem examination was conducted on Ahmed's body last year following the directions of the Calcutta High Court, and the report stated that Ahmed's neck showed signs of a gunshot wound on the upper left side and a stab wound on the right.

These injuries were not documented by the police during the initial investigation nor were they filmed during the first autopsy conducted at Midnapore Medical College in October 2022.

The report also indicated that Ahmed's death was possibly due to an injury on the back of his head, prompting the Calcutta High Court to say that it was surprised that the first autopsy had missed the injury marks.

Ahmed's family had alleged foul play, saying he had been ragged on campus, and after his father moved the Calcutta High Court seeking the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe his death, the court in May 2023 ordered the exhumation of his body and a second post-mortem examination.

The second post-mortem also ruled out poisoning, a theory previously considered, and the case will be heard in the Calcutta High Court next week before Justice Amrita Sinha's bench.
