In a statement after his conviction on felony charges in his federal gun case, Hunter Biden said he’s grateful for the support from family and friends but “disappointed” by the outcome.

Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, joined by his wife Melissa Cohen Biden, returns to court at the J. Caleb Boggs Federal Building on June 11, 2024 in Wilmington, Delaware.

Hunter was convicted Tuesday of all three felony charges related to the purchase of a revolver in 2018 when, prosecutors argued, the president’s son lied on a mandatory gun-purchase form by saying he was not illegally using or addicted to drugs.

Hunter stared straight ahead and showed little emotion as the verdict was read after three hours of deliberations over two days.

After the verdict, he hugged both of his attorneys and smiled wanly.

He kissed his wife, Melissa, and they left the courtroom together.

Joe Biden reactsAfter the jury's decision was announced, President Joe Biden said he would accept the outcome of the case and “will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal.”

“Jill and I will always be there for Hunter and the rest of our family with our love and support.

Nothing will ever change that,” the president said in a statement.

Jurors found Hunter Biden guilty of lying to a federally licensed gun dealer, making a false claim on the application by saying he was not a drug user and illegally having the gun for 11 days.

He faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced by Judge Maryellen Noreika, though first-time offenders do not get anywhere near the maximum, and it’s unclear whether she would give him time behind bars.

The judge did not set a sentencing date.
