The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning that heatwave conditions are likely to persist over several parts of the country, including Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha, on June 3rd.

The IMD has also predicted that the upcoming monsoon season is likely to be normal or above normal in most parts of the country, but below normal in some parts of India. The monsoon has already arrived in Kerala, two days earlier than usual.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has held a meeting to review the current heatwave conditions and assess the country's preparedness for the upcoming rainy season. He has directed that regular fire and electrical safety audits be conducted in hospitals and other public places, and that regular drills be held to maintain firelines in forests.

According to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), at least 56 people have died from heatstroke in various states till Saturday due to the extreme heat. The IMD has advised people to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
