The Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) in Coimbatore is planning to send a gold ring engraved with Periyar's image to CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur, who slapped actor and newly elected BJP MP Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh airport a few days ago.
TPDK general secretary Ku Ramakrishnan said on Saturday, "We are planning to send an eight-gram gold ring on Monday to appreciate Kulwinder Kaur, who stood up for the farmers. Her mother was among the farmers holding a sit-in protest against farm laws."
Ramakrishnan added that they would send the ring to Kaur's home address. If courier services do not accept the gold ring, they will send a member to her home by train or flight to hand over the ring and some books about Periyar.
This gesture by TPDK is being seen as a show of appreciation for Kaur's actions, which have been widely praised by many, including farmers' organizations and political leaders.
Periyar was a social reformer and rationalist who fought against caste discrimination and untouchability. He is considered a father figure by many Dravidian parties, including TPDK.
It is unclear how Ranaut will react to this gesture from TPDK. Ranaut has been a vocal critic of the farmers' protests, and she has often made controversial statements about various issues.
