Congress Suffers Setback in Madhya Pradesh as Father-Son Combos Fail
  • Father-son combo fails to ensure Congress win in two Madhya Pradesh seats.
  • Kamal Nath campaigned extensively for son Nakul Nath in Chhindwara.
  • Congress veteran Kantilal Bhuria lost in Ratlam despite son being MLA.

In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party suffered a setback in two key seats in Madhya Pradesh, where father-son combinations failed to deliver victories.

Congress veteran Kamal Nath, who has won the Chhindwara seat a record nine times since the 1980s, campaigned extensively for his son Nakul Nath. However, Nakul Nath lost to the BJP's Bunty Vivek Sahu by a margin of over 1 lakh votes.

Similarly, in Ratlam, senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Kantilal Bhuria lost despite his son being MLA in one of the Assembly segments in the Lok Sabha constituency.

The defeat in these two seats is particularly disappointing for the Congress, as it comes after the party's improved performance in the overall Lok Sabha elections.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress had won just one seat in Madhya Pradesh. This time, the party increased its tally to two, but the loss of Chhindwara and Ratlam will be seen as a major setback.

The BJP, on the other hand, swept all 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh, consolidating its grip on the state.

The results in Madhya Pradesh reflect the wider trend in the Lok Sabha elections, where the BJP emerged as the clear winner, increasing its tally from 282 to 303.

The Congress, meanwhile, failed to make significant gains and will now have to focus on rebuilding its support base in key states like Madhya Pradesh.

The party will also need to address the issue of factionalism, which has been blamed for its poor performance in some areas.

Overall, the Lok Sabha election results represent a major setback for the Congress and raise questions about the party's future prospects.
