Congress Narrowly Saves Leader of Opposition Post in Rajya Sabha
  • Congress retains Leader of Opposition post in Rajya Sabha.
  • BJP to gain three additional seats in Rajya Sabha.
  • BJP remains single largest party with 90 members.

The Congress party has narrowly managed to retain the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. This comes after two of its members, K.C.

Venugopal and Deepender Hooda, were elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament.

The BJP, which is the ruling party at the center, is now the single largest party in the Rajya Sabha with 90 members. The Congress is the second largest party with 26 members.

In order to qualify for the post of Leader of the Opposition, a party must have at least 25 members in the Rajya Sabha. The Congress currently has 26 members, so it was able to retain the post after the election of Venugopal and Hooda to the Lok Sabha.

The BJP is expected to gain three additional seats in the Rajya Sabha as a result of the election of Venugopal and Hooda to the Lok Sabha. This is because the BJP will now have a majority in the Rajya Sabha from the states of Assam, Bihar, and Maharashtra.

The Congress party is facing a difficult challenge in the Rajya Sabha. The party has been losing members to the BJP in recent years, and it is now the second largest party in the upper house.

The Congress party will need to work hard to retain its position as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. The party will need to win back the support of some of the members who have defected to the BJP and it will need to attract new members to the party.

The BJP is the largest party in the Rajya Sabha and it is likely to remain the largest party for the foreseeable future.

The BJP is expected to continue to gain seats in the Rajya Sabha as a result of its strong performance in the Lok Sabha elections.
