Lipi Rastogi, the 27-year-old daughter of senior Maharashtra cadre IAS officers Radhika and Vikas Rastogi, died by suicide on Monday after jumping off a Mumbai high-rise.
According to police officials, Lipi, a law student, jumped from the 10th floor of a building near the state secretariat at around 4 am. A note was found in her room suggesting that she was anxious about her upcoming exams.
Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and ordered an investigation into the incident.
In a similar incident in 2017, Maharashtra cadre IAS officers Milind and Manisha Mhaiskar lost their 18-year-old son after he jumped off a Mumbai high-rise.
The incident has raised concerns about the mental health of young people, especially students facing academic pressure.
