The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has uncovered new and disturbing details in the murder case of Bangladeshi Member of Parliament (MP) Anwarul Azim Anar. According to the investigators, the MP was suffocated with a pillow shortly after entering an apartment in Kolkata's New Town area.
After killing Anar, the accused dismembered his body into several small pieces, placed them in plastic bags, and disposed of them in various locations in New Town and the Bagjola canal. They then fled to different hideouts, as revealed by arrested accused Mohammad Siyam Hussain to the police, according to news agency PTI.
Hussain also reportedly admitted that portions of the MP's body were placed in a trolley suitcase and discarded near the Bangaon border with Bangladesh. Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar was reported missing on May 18 from Baranagar in North 24 Parganas while on a personal visit to India. On May 22, officials from Dhaka and West Bengal confirmed his murder.
Following this, the Dhaka police and West Bengal CID launched an investigation, which resulted in the arrest of five individuals, three of whom were apprehended in Dhaka. On June 9, one of the accused led the CID to a canal bank in South 24 Parganas, where they discovered the bones of a 'male human'. Two days later, police recovered several kilos of flesh from the septic tank of an apartment in North 24 Parganas.
According to a CID official, 'Preliminary reports have confirmed that the flesh belongs to a human being. We will now proceed with DNA testing to determine if it matches the Bangladeshi MP. This process will take some time.' Meanwhile, a preliminary investigation revealed that Akhtaruzzaman, a close friend of the MP, had paid around ₹five crore to those involved in the crime. Notably, Akhtaruzzaman owns an apartment in Kolkata but is believed to be currently residing in the United States.
The murder of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar and the subsequent gruesome details that have emerged have sent shockwaves across both Bangladesh and India. The investigation is ongoing, and further information is expected to be released as the case progresses.
