Congress candidate Balwant Wankhede has defeated sitting MP and BJP candidate Navneet Rana from the Amravati Lok Sabha constituency in eastern Maharashtra.
Wankhede secured 5,26,271 votes, while Rana received 5,06,540 votes, resulting in a victory margin of 19,731 votes.
Wankhede's victory marks a significant gain for the Congress party in the region, which has traditionally been a stronghold of the BJP.
Rana, who is the wife of independent MLA Ravi Rana, had won the seat in a by-election held in 2022 after the death of her father-in-law and former Union Minister Anandrao Adsul.
The Amravati Lok Sabha constituency consists of six assembly segments - Amravati, Badnera, Achalpur, Morshi, Daryapur, and Melghat.
The constituency has a significant rural population and is known for its agricultural and industrial activities.
The by-election was necessitated due to the demise of sitting MP Anandrao Adsul in January 2022.
Rana had won the seat by a margin of over 23,000 votes, defeating Wankhede, who was the runner-up.
