Actor Noor Malabika Das, known for her role in the 2023 legal drama 'The Trial,' was found dead in her Mumbai flat on Thursday. Das, who was also a former air hostess with Qatar Airways, was found in a decomposed state, leading to suspicions that she died by suicide.
The body was discovered after neighbours noticed a foul smell and alerted the police. The police broke open the door and found Das's body, along with samples of medicines and mobile phones, which were collected as part of the probe. No suicide note was found.
Das's elderly parents had recently visited her before returning to Assam. As they were unable to travel to Mumbai again, her friend and actor Aloknath Pathak cremated her body with the assistance of an NGO.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association has appealed to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis to thoroughly investigate the alleged suicide.
The association emphasized the need for the government to delve into the underlying causes behind the recurring tragedies in the Indian film industry.
