The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the nominees for the ICC Women's Player of the Month award for April 2024, and South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt has made the cut once again.
The South African captain and opening batter has been in exceptional form with the bat in the recently concluded white-ball series against Sri Lanka. In April, Wolvaardt featured in one T20I and three ICC Women's Championship ODIs, making valuable contributions in each of those games.
Wolvaardt's impressive run started in the one-off T20I against Sri Lanka, where she top-scored for South Africa with a 47-ball 56. Her knock helped her side post a competitive total of 149/6, which they eventually defended to win by 12 runs.
In the three-match ODI series that followed, Wolvaardt took her game to another level. She accumulated 335 runs at an astonishing average of 335, including two centuries and a fifty.
Wolvaardt's standout performance came in the second ODI in Kimberley, where she smashed a magnificent 149 off 145 balls. Her knock helped South Africa chase down a target of 278 with ease, winning the match by eight wickets.
Wolvaardt's consistent performances have played a crucial role in South Africa's success in recent months. She has been a pillar of strength at the top of the order, providing her team with solid starts and laying the foundation for big scores.
With her nomination for the ICC Women's Player of the Month award, Wolvaardt has once again underlined her status as one of the leading batters in the world. She will be hoping to continue her impressive form in the upcoming series against England.
