  • Voters prioritize development, youth empowerment, and a change from past policies.

After a spirited campaign in Srinagar, the Lok Sabha constituency is poised for a three-way race on Monday in the fourth phase of the general elections.

The National Conference (NC), Apni Party (AP), and People's Democratic Party (PDP) are the primary contenders in this triangular contest.

The NC, which has held the seat since 1998 with the exception of 2014, has nominated Aga Ruhullah, a former cabinet minister and Shia cleric.

The PDP is fielding Waheed ur Rehman Parra, the president of its youth wing, who is focusing on youth development and power projects.

The AP, led by former education minister Altaf Bukhari, has put forward Mohammad Ashraf Mir, emphasizing the restoration of statehood and employment generation.

Voters in Srinagar have expressed concerns about pressure experienced since 2019 and a desire for a change in leadership.

The contest is expected to be primarily between the NC and AP, with the PDP's influence concentrated in other areas.

Despite the lack of a boycott call, the poll percentage is anticipated to increase, with all three main parties targeting the electorate.

The delimitation process has expanded the constituency to include districts from south Kashmir, resulting in over 17 lakh registered voters.

The outcome of this election will indicate whether the AP leadership has gained support and determine the political landscape in Srinagar for the future.
