Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking interim bail in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam.
Soren's lawyer, Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, argued that the court's recent order granting interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal 'covers' Soren's case as well.
The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), seeking its reply on Soren's plea by May 17.
Soren was arrested by the ED on May 3 in connection with the alleged land scam case.
The ED has alleged that Soren illegally allotted land to his associates when he was the Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
Soren has denied the allegations and has said that he is being politically targeted.
The Supreme Court is expected to hear Soren's plea for interim bail on May 17.
