Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 flying from London to Singapore encountered severe turbulence over the Indian Ocean on Tuesday, resulting in a sudden drop of 1,800 meters in three minutes. The incident left one British passenger dead and several others injured, including three from India.
The Boeing 777 aircraft carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members experienced the turbulence due to stormy weather conditions. Passengers on board described the aircraft shaking violently, causing injuries to some who hit their heads or were struck by falling objects.
Due to the severity of the turbulence, the flight was diverted to Bangkok for an emergency landing. Passengers with serious injuries were provided medical attention, while others were accommodated in hotels.
Singapore Airlines has expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased passenger and is providing support to all those affected by the incident. The airline has also set up hotlines for relatives of the passengers to provide assistance and information.
