Rahul Gandhi to Contest from Rae Bareli in 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

Rahul Gandhi to Contest from Rae Bareli in 2024 Lok Sabha Elections
  • Rahul Gandhi contested from Amethi and Wayanad in 2019, but lost Amethi.
  • In 2024, he is contesting from Rae Bareli, not Amethi.
  • 68% respondents in an India TV poll believe he should have contested from Amethi.

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Indian National Congress (INC), is a prominent figure in Indian politics. He is the son of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and former Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi has been a Member of Parliament (MP) for two terms, representing the Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi contested from two constituencies, Amethi and Wayanad in Kerala. He won from Wayanad but lost Amethi to Smriti Irani of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, there was speculation that Rahul Gandhi would once again contest from both Amethi and Wayanad.

However, in a surprising move, the Congress party announced that Rahul Gandhi would contest from Rae Bareli, the constituency currently represented by his mother Sonia Gandhi. This decision has been met with mixed reactions, with some expressing disappointment that Rahul Gandhi is not contesting from Amethi, which has been a traditional stronghold of the Gandhi family for decades.

In a recent poll conducted by India TV, 68% of respondents said that they believe Rahul Gandhi should have contested from Amethi. This suggests that there is still a strong desire among many voters to see Rahul Gandhi represent the Amethi constituency.

The decision by the Congress party to field Rahul Gandhi from Rae Bareli is a strategic one. Rae Bareli is considered a safe seat for the Congress party, and it is likely that Rahul Gandhi will win from there. However, it remains to be seen whether this decision will help the Congress party to regain power in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
