Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna, accused of sexually abusing multiple women, has been arrested upon his return to India. Revanna, who is the grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, fled the country in April after videos emerged showing him engaging in sexual acts with several women.
Revanna's arrest comes after months of protests and demands from the public and women's rights groups. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) had been formed to investigate the allegations against him, and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had initiated action to cancel his diplomatic passport.
Revanna, who is the JD(S) MP for Karnataka's Hassan constituency, has denied the allegations and claimed that the videos were fake. However, the SIT has filed a case against him and five others, including his father, HD Revanna.
Revanna's mother, Bhavani Revanna, has filed a plea for anticipatory bail for her husband in the kidnapping case in which he was earlier arrested. The Karnataka High Court has reserved the order for May 31.
The arrest of Prajwal Revanna is a significant development in the case, and it is expected that the SIT will continue its investigation and take appropriate action based on the evidence gathered.
