Mumbai Monsoon Rains to Arrive on June 10th
  • Monsoon rains in Mumbai expected on June 10th.
  • IMD predicts timely onset due to increased rainfall in Kerala.
  • Mumbai rains delayed last year due to Cyclone Biparjoy.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the monsoon rains will arrive in Mumbai on June 10th. This is based on the timely onset of the southwest monsoon in Kerala on May 31st.

The increased rainfall activity in Kerala over the past two weeks has created favourable conditions for the monsoon's arrival. The IMD has also stated that the rainfall activity over Kerala is likely to increase towards the end of week 1 and beginning of week 2, leading to the likely onset of the monsoon over Kerala around May 31st, with an error of four days.

Overall, the IMD expects the rainfall activity to be above normal over east and northeast India, near normal over central and south Peninsular India, and below normal over northwest India.

While no official statement has been released regarding the monsoon's entry into Mumbai, the near-normal monsoon onset in Kerala and the absence of anticipated cyclones over the Arabian Sea or the Bay of Bengal are creating a favourable situation for a timely beginning of monsoon showers in Mumbai.

The monsoon normally arrives in Mumbai on June 11th. However, last year, the monsoon rains were delayed by two weeks due to unfavourable weather conditions, including Cyclone Biparjoy. This year, Mumbaikars will have to wait until the second week of June to enjoy the monsoon rains, but the pre-monsoon showers will provide some respite from the scorching summer heat.

In the coming days, Mumbai is expected to experience clear skies and very humid weather. The minimum temperature is expected to be around 27 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature could hover between 33-35 degrees Celsius.
