  • Mayawati removes nephew Akash Anand as political heir due to immaturity.
  • Anand's father to continue responsibilities in BSP.

Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has removed her nephew, Akash Anand, as her political successor and from his party post until he attains "maturity." The decision was announced on Tuesday, amidst the ongoing Lok Sabha election.

Mayawati took to social media to announce her decision, stating that it was made in the larger interest of the party and the movement. She wrote, "I declared Akash Anand as the National Coordinator of BSP and my successor, but in the larger interest of the party and the movement, he is being separated from both these important responsibilities until he attains full maturity."

Mayawati added that BSP is not just a party but also a movement to respect Dr. BR Ambedkar and social change, and that a new generation is being prepared to give it momentum. She explained that Akash's father, Anand Kumar, will continue to fulfill his responsibilities in the party and the movement as before.

The decision comes after a case of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violation was registered against Akash Anand and four others for allegedly using objectionable language at a poll rally in Sitapur. The district administration took suo motu cognisance of Anand's speech at the rally earlier in the day.

In his address, Anand criticized the ruling government and accused it of failing to provide safety to women and children. He also alleged that the BJP is a party of thieves who took Rs 16,000 crores through electoral bonds.

The case was registered against Anand, party candidates Mahendra Yadav, Shyam Awasthi, and Akshay Kalra, and rally organizer Vikas Rajvanshi, Superintendent of Police (Sitapur) Chakresh Mishra said.
