Lok Sabha Election Phase 3: Voting Begins in 93 Seats Across 11 States, UTs

Voting for the third phase of the seven-phase 2024 India elections commenced on Tuesday at 7 am in 93 constituencies spread across 11 states and Union Territories.

Several prominent figures are contesting in this phase, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking re-election from Gujarat's Gandhinagar constituency. Union ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia (Guna, Madhya Pradesh), Mansukh Mandaviya (Porbandar, Gujarat), and Pralhad Joshi (Dharwad, Karnataka) are also in the fray.

Maharashtra's Baramati constituency, considered a stronghold of the Pawar family, will witness a contest between Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule and Sunetra Pawar, the wife of Sharad Pawar's estranged nephew and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

The third phase is also significant for the late Mulayam Singh Yadav's family, as three of its members are contesting. Akhilesh Yadav's wife, Dimple Yadav, is among the candidates, along with Akshay Yadav, the son of senior Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav, and Aditya Yadav, the son of SP national general secretary Shivpal Yadav.

A total of 1351 candidates are contesting from these 93 constituencies, with over 17 crore eligible voters, including 8.39 crore females.

The states and union territories where elections will be held in this phase are Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

In the second phase, held on April 26, voting took place in 88 constituencies across 12 states and Union Territories.

The remaining phases of the Lok Sabha elections are scheduled as follows:

  • Phase 4: May 13
  • Phase 5: May 20
  • Phase 6: May 25
  • Phase 7: June 1

Counting of votes for all 543 seats will take place on June 4.
