Kejriwal's Bail Plea: SC Open to Interim Bail, ED to Prepare
  • Supreme Court hears Arvind Kejriwal's bail petition.
  • Kejriwal in judicial custody since March 21 for alleged corruption.
  • High court upheld arrest due to refusal to cooperate with investigation.

The Supreme Court of India is currently considering the bail petition filed by Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor, Arvind Kejriwal. The court has indicated that it is open to granting interim bail to Kejriwal, especially in light of the upcoming polls.

Kejriwal has been in judicial custody in Tihar Jail since his arrest on March 21, 2023. The arrest was made in connection with an alleged corruption and money laundering case related to the formulation and execution of the Delhi government's now-scrapped liquor excise policy for 2021-22.

On April 9, the high court upheld Kejriwal's arrest, citing his repeated refusal to join the investigation and attend summonses. The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on April 15 concerning Kejriwal's plea and sought their response.

During the hearing on Tuesday, the Supreme Court urged the ED to come prepared for the hearing, noting that they may grant or deny bail, but neither side should be taken by surprise. The court's decision on Kejriwal's bail plea is expected soon.
