In a tragic and shocking incident, a 26-year-old woman in Karnataka allegedly threw her six-year-old disabled son into a crocodile-infested river, leading to his untimely demise.
The incident occurred in the Dandeli taluk of the Uttara Kannada district, where the woman, identified as Savitri, was involved in a heated argument with her husband, Ravi Kumar, over the condition of their elder son, who was mute since birth.
According to police reports, the couple had frequent quarrels regarding their son's disability, with Ravi Kumar often blaming Savitri and questioning her for giving birth to a child with such a condition.
On the fateful evening, following another intense dispute, Savitri, in a fit of frustration, allegedly took her son to a waste canal directly connected to the Kali river, which was known to be inhabited by crocodiles.
Despite the immediate response of neighbors and the efforts of police and divers, the search operation conducted on Saturday evening proved futile due to darkness.
The following morning, the police managed to retrieve the child's body, bearing severe injuries, bite marks, and a missing hand, indicating a fatal crocodile attack.
The post-mortem examination was conducted to determine the precise cause of death, and the police registered a case under sections 109 (abetment) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
Both Savitri and Ravi Kumar were apprehended in connection with the incident, facing charges for their alleged involvement in the murder and abetment of their son's tragic demise.
This heart-wrenching incident highlights the devastating consequences of domestic disputes and the urgent need to address issues related to disability and mental health within families and society at large.
