The official deadline for application submission for the post of Indian cricket team coach selection has passed, with Monday being the last date to submit applications.
Several top names, primarily associated with IPL teams, were initially considered, including Gautam Gambhir, Stephen Fleming, Rocky Ponting, and Justin Langer.
However, most foreign candidates publicly declined to apply, including Australians, as per BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who emphasized the appointment of someone familiar with the domestic structure.
This led to speculation about an Indian coach, with VVS Laxman and Gautam Gambhir emerging as potential candidates.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, Jay Shah and Gautam Gambhir engaged in a conversation centered around the idea of 'desh ke liye karna hai' (doing it for the country).
Gambhir, known for his patriotic sentiments, is reportedly considering the BCCI's approach, with the knowledge of KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan.
While there is no official confirmation of Gambhir's formal application, earlier reports suggested SRK's desire for Gambhir's long-term association with KKR.
Dainik Jagran reported that SRK even offered Gambhir a blank cheque to remain with KKR for the next decade.
The final decision on the Indian cricket team coach is yet to be made, but the 'desh ke liye' sentiment and Gambhir's potential involvement have added intrigue to the selection process.
