India Heatwave News: Delhi's Max Temp to Hit 42°C Today
  • Heatwave affecting large parts of north India including Delhi.
  • 42 and 31 degrees Celsius maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi.
  • Nine people died of suspected heat stroke in Rajasthan.

India is experiencing a severe heatwave, with large parts of the north, including the capital Delhi, being affected.

The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are expected to reach 42 and 31 degrees Celsius, respectively, on Friday, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange' warning for the city for the period May 25-27.

The heatwave has already claimed at least nine lives in the western state of Rajasthan, where temperatures have soared to 48.8 degrees Celsius.

Scientists have predicted more heatwave days than usual this year due to fewer non-monsoon thundershowers and an active but weakening El Nino weather phenomenon.

Voting for the Lok Sabha election 2024 is set to be held in Delhi on May 25, and it remains to be seen whether the heatwave will have any impact on turnout.

The heatwave is a reminder of the importance of staying hydrated and taking precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses, such as heat stroke and dehydration.

People are advised to drink plenty of fluids, wear loose and light-colored clothing, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest hours of the day.
