Gujarat Gaming Zone Fire: Top Officials Transferred Amid Outcry
  • Gujarat government transfers civic chief, police commissioner over gaming zone fire.
  • Rajkot Police Commissioner Raju Bhargava replaced by Brijesh Kumar Jha.
  • Three arrested in connection with Rajkot gaming zone fire.

Amidst the outcry over the tragic fire at a gaming zone in Rajkot, Gujarat, which claimed the lives of 27 individuals, the state government has taken swift action by transferring several high-ranking officials.

Rajkot Police Commissioner Raju Bhargava has been replaced by 1999 batch IPS officer Brijesh Kumar Jha, who previously served as the Special Commissioner of Police in Ahmedabad. Additionally, Vidhi Choudhary, Additional Commissioner of Police, and Sudhirkumar J Desai, DCP-Zone 2, have also been transferred out of Rajkot.

The government has appointed DP Desai as the new Rajkot Municipal Commissioner, replacing Anand Babulal Patel. The transfers come in the wake of public outrage over the fire, which has raised questions about safety standards and the response of authorities.

The police have arrested three individuals in connection with the incident, including one of the partners, Yuvrajsinh Solanki, and the entertainment facility's manager, Nitin Jain. An FIR has been registered against six partners of the TRP game zone on charges of culpable homicide.

As per the FIR, the accused are alleged to have erected an unauthorized structure using metal sheets, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are expected.

The transfers and arrests indicate the government's determination to hold those responsible for the tragedy accountable and to improve safety regulations for public entertainment facilities.

The incident has also highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of building codes and fire safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
