Google is reportedly in advanced discussions with iPhone manufacturer Foxconn to produce Pixel smartphones locally in Tamil Nadu, according to sources familiar with the matter.

This move aligns with Google's strategy to expand its Pixel smartphone business in India, where there is growing demand for premium smartphones.

Google parent company Alphabet will also commence drone manufacturing in the state through its subsidiary Wing LLC.

A Tamil Nadu delegation recently met with Google executives in the United States to discuss the initiative.

Google is also exploring a partnership with local contract manufacturer Dixon for Pixel smartphone production in India.

Google initially announced its plans to manufacture Pixel smartphones in India in October 2023, starting with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro models.

The company aims to increase the accessibility of its smartphones across the country.

Tamil Nadu has emerged as a hub for advanced manufacturing, particularly in the electronics sector.

It is home to major players like Foxconn, Pegatron, and Tata, and leads in electronics exports with a significant share of the national total.

Further details regarding the investment size, production timeline, and job creation associated with this initiative are expected to be released soon.
