A group of tourists from Hyderabad had a harrowing experience when their car sank into a swollen stream in Kerala. The incident occurred late Friday night when the four-member group, including a woman, were driving towards Alappuzha.

The tourists were using Google Maps to navigate, but the app led them into the water body. The road they were travelling on was covered by water overflowing from the stream due to the heavy rains. The tourists were unfamiliar with the area and drove right into the water.

All four occupants managed to escape unharmed thanks to the quick response of a nearby police patrolling unit and local residents. However, their vehicle sank into the stream.

This is not the first such incident reported in Kerala. In October last year, two young doctors died in a car accident after they allegedly followed directions on Google Maps and fell into a river.

Following the incident, the Kerala police issued cautionary guidelines for using Google Maps during the monsoon season.

The incident highlights the need for caution when using Google Maps or any other navigation app, especially in unfamiliar areas and during inclement weather.
