A major fire erupted at a rubber factory in Haryana's Sonipat district on Tuesday evening, resulting in injuries to over 40 individuals. The incident occurred in the district's Rai industrial area, with the injured rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
According to local police officials and news agency PTI, the fire's cause remains under investigation. However, it is suspected that a boiler explosion may have triggered the blaze.
The fire comes amidst a spate of fire incidents in the region, attributed to the prevailing heatwave conditions. Earlier in the day, a fire broke out at a godown near Delhi's Mansarovar Park Metro Station, and two commercial buildings caught fire in Srinagar's posh Rajbagh area.
Additionally, a major fire broke out at an eye hospital in Delhi's Paschim Vihar, with six fire engines deployed to control the blaze. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. This incident follows a tragic fire at a hospital in the city's Vivek Vihar, which claimed the lives of seven newborns.
Meanwhile, Delhi has been experiencing extreme heat, with temperatures soaring close to 50 degrees Celsius. The city's Safdarjung observatory recorded a temperature of 45.8 degrees Celsius, while the outskirts of Mungeshpur and Narela experienced temperatures as high as 49.9 degrees Celsius.
The Delhi government has directed all state-run and private health facilities to conduct fire audits in light of the recent incidents. The blistering heat and the spate of fires have raised concerns among residents and authorities alike, highlighting the need for enhanced safety measures.
