End of Heatwave Predicted in India, but Rajasthan to Remain Scorching
  • Heatwave to end in India, except Rajasthan.
  • Thunderstorms with lightning expected in several states.
  • Delhi and Kerala issue yellow alerts for heatwave.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted an end to the heatwave conditions across the country this week. However, several states experienced thunderstorms, prompting a yellow alert for Rajasthan on Friday as maximum temperatures remained well above 41°C.

The weather department had earlier indicated that temperatures would continue to increase over the next two days — particularly in the Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Bharatpur divisions. The temperatures in various districts has already crossed the of 44°C mark.

The IMD scientist also said that thunderstorm activity in the country was set to increase as “strong moisture flow came to the country from the Bay of Bengal”. The forecast broached the possibility of “cloud-to-ground lightning in these thunderstorms”.

Meanwhile, authorities in Delhi have prepared a heat stroke unit to treat patients at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in light of rising temperatures. The national capital inaugurated the first-of-its-kind facility on Wednesday, containing a special room equipped with all necessary implements for treating patients suffering from heat stroke.

The weather department, meanwhile, has also issued a yellow alert for Alappuzha district in Kerala on Thursday — with heatwave conditions very likely to prevail over one or two places.
