The Indian cricket team will play three crucial group stage matches of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, USA.
Led by skipper Rohit Sharma, the Indian side will face Ireland on June 5, followed by a highly anticipated clash against Pakistan on June 9. Their final group stage match at the venue will be against the United States on June 12.
Ahead of the tournament's commencement, India is scheduled to play a warm-up match against Bangladesh on Friday. In preparation for this match, head coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma conducted an inspection of the drop-in pitch at the venue.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, their initial impression of the pitch was positive, with Dravid and Sharma describing it as "normal and good." They believe that the pitch will likely favor batters, which could be a welcome advantage for the Indian team.
There had been considerable speculation regarding the behavior of drop-in pitches, as most teams are not particularly familiar with these types of surfaces. However, the warm-up match against Bangladesh will provide an excellent opportunity for the Indian players to gain a better understanding of the pitch and make any necessary adjustments to their strategies.
The Indian team was spotted practicing at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Friday, ahead of their warm-up fixture against Bangladesh in the much-awaited ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, which will be jointly hosted by the United States and the West Indies.
Visuals from the stadium showcased the Men in Blue engaged in practice sessions at the nets. Players such as Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, and Avesh Khan were observed bowling in the nets, honing their skills for the upcoming challenges.
In this tournament, India carries the aspiration of ending their prolonged ICC trophy drought. Their last major ICC triumph was the ICC Champions Trophy victory in 2013. Since then, India has consistently reached the latter stages of various ICC tournaments, including the 50-over World Cup final in 2023, the semifinals in 2015 and 2019, the title clash of the ICC World Test Championship in 2021 and 2023, and the T20 World Cup final in 2014 and the semifinals in 2016 and 2022. However, they have not managed to secure a major ICC trophy during this period.
The Indian team will be determined to break this sequence and emerge victorious in the T20 World Cup 2024. With a talented squad and experienced leadership, they will be among the favorites to lift the coveted trophy and bring glory to their nation.
