  • CSK head coach Stephen Fleming unlikely to apply for India job.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO KS Viswanathan has stated that the franchise respects MS Dhoni's decisions and will await his announcement on his future with the team.

Dhoni, 42, led CSK to four IPL titles but stepped down as captain ahead of the 2023 season. CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs in 2023, leading to speculation about Dhoni's future.

Viswanathan emphasized that Dhoni has always made his own decisions and will do so again when it comes to his future with CSK.

He expressed hope that Dhoni will continue to play for CSK in 2024 but acknowledged that the decision is ultimately up to Dhoni.

Viswanathan also discussed CSK's decision to appoint Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain in 2023. He revealed that the team management had been grooming Gaikwad for leadership and that both Dhoni and head coach Stephen Fleming believed he would be a good captain.

Gaikwad led CSK comfortably in 2023, and Viswanathan praised him for handling the pressure and continuing to perform well with the bat.

Viswanathan also addressed rumors that Fleming might apply for the India men's head coach job. He said that he had spoken to Fleming, who laughed off the suggestion and indicated that he was not interested in the role.

Viswanathan explained that Fleming does not like to be involved in cricket for nine to ten months of the year and prefers to have more time off.

In conclusion, Viswanathan expressed confidence in CSK's future under Gaikwad's leadership and thanked the fans for their support.

He emphasized that the team management does not interfere in cricketing matters, giving the players the freedom and responsibility to perform.
