Delhi Weather Likely to Improve, Rain Predicted
  • Delhi's weather expected to improve from Thursday, with a chance of light rain.
  • Heatwave conditions to persist in some areas, with maximum temperature around 45°C.
  • Temperature to drop by 3-4 degrees by June 1st, bringing relief to residents.

Delhi's weather is likely to improve from Thursday, with heatwave conditions expected to persist in certain areas, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather agency has predicted a maximum temperature of around 45°C for May 30.

Shifting from a “red alert” for heatwave on Wednesday, the IMD has sounded an orange alert for Thursday. The regional meteorological centre, New Delhi, has stated that there is a possibility of a thunderstorm with very light rain or drizzle accompanied by gusty winds.

The maximum temperature for Thursday is expected to rise to 45 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature will be at 30 degrees Celsius. According to Mahesh Palawat, Vice President at Skymet Weather, the heat index has reduced due to the approach of westerly winds, which has lowered the "feels-like" temperature.

Cloudy weather is expected to persist until June 1. The head of the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre, IMD, Kuldeep Srivastava, has predicted a 2-3 degree reduction in temperature on Thursday. On May 31st and June 1st, there is a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in Delhi-NCR and the entire Northwest region due to western disturbances.

The IMD has also predicted warm night conditions over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh on May 30.

Meanwhile, Delhi recorded India's highest-ever temperature on Wednesday when the mercury reached 52.9 degrees Celsius at the city's Mungeshpur weather station. However, IMD officials later said that the record-breaking temperature could be due to an error in the sensor or a local factor.

In response to the heatwave, the Noida Authority has changed the work timings for its employees and workers engaged in outdoor work. The first shift will now begin at 6 am, and the working hours for employees engaged in development and maintenance work will be from 6 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 8 pm.
