  • Sudden change in weather causes flight diversion and traffic jams.
  • Injured victims rescued after signboard collapse in Dwarka.

A massive dust storm accompanied by thunderstorms and rain hit Delhi-NCR on Friday night, causing significant disruption to daily life.

The sudden change in weather forced the diversion of nine flights, including two Air India flights at Delhi airport, to Jaipur. Additionally, the high winds caused trees to fall in various areas, leading to traffic jams.

The most serious incident occurred in Dwarka, where a large signboard fell on two vehicles, including an ambulance, injuring three people. The victims, who included two ambulance occupants and an auto driver, were taken to the hospital by Delhi Fire Service officials.

The weather department attributed the sudden dust storm to a western disturbance. Delhi had been experiencing rising temperatures and humidity, and the dust storm brought much-needed relief.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast the possibility of dust storms and thunderstorms on Friday, along with light rain and isolated hailstorms. The minimum and maximum temperatures in Delhi are expected to settle at 39 and 29 degrees Celsius, respectively, on Saturday.

There is a high chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday, according to the IMD. The dust storm serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of weather and the importance of staying informed about weather forecasts.
