Congress Projects Big Maharashtra Win, Tharoor Cites Positive Public Response
  • Congress confident of victory in Maharashtra elections
  • Seismic political shifts in state since 2019
  • BJP's invitation to join seen as sign of desperation

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has expressed confidence in the party's prospects in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, predicting a 'very big victory' for the opposition alliance.

Tharoor cited the positive response he received during his recent public meetings in the state, saying that the enthusiasm and passion he witnessed left him feeling 'very upbeat and very positive'.

Maharashtra has undergone significant political changes since the 2019 elections, including the breakdown of the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance, the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, and splits within the Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party.

The BJP, which won 41 seats in Maharashtra in 2019, is also aware of the changing political landscape and is seen as desperate to maintain its position, as indicated by its open invitation for anyone to join the party.

The Congress, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena are contesting the elections in an alliance, while the BJP is contesting in alliance with the Eknath Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena and the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP.

The outcome of the Maharashtra elections is crucial, as the state sends the largest number of MPs to the Lok Sabha after Uttar Pradesh.
