Professor Amit Patel, a brilliant Indian-origin doctor, died after being subjected to a botched medical procedure without his informed consent.
The procedure, an endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), was recommended by the national HLH MDT based on an incomplete presentation of Patel's clinical case.
Had the national HLH MDT had all relevant information, the EBUS procedure would not have gone ahead, and Patel would not have died.
The Coroner also found that Patel was not treated like an ordinary patient, despite his expertise in the field.
Patel's death was caused by failures in his care, and thus his death was avoidable.
The Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust said it has undertaken a detailed investigation thoroughly examining the care Patel received while in hospital.
The trust is committed to providing the best care possible for its patients and will apply the lessons learned from this incident to improve its patients' safety, quality of care, and experience.
Patel was a highly respected doctor and his death is a tragic loss to the medical community.
He was a brilliant man whose legacy will go beyond his academic and professional achievements.
Patel's family and friends will cherish the memories of a loving husband, father, and friend.
