Bengaluru police reported receiving bomb threat emails targeting three prominent hotels in the city, including The Oterra, as per Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South East Bengaluru. The incident follows a similar threat made against North Block, the building housing the Ministry of Home Affairs, which was later deemed a hoax.
In response to the bomb threats, bomb disposal and detection teams were promptly dispatched to the affected hotels. The authorities are investigating the situation and taking necessary precautions to ensure public safety.
This incident adds to a string of hoax bomb threats received by multiple schools in Delhi-NCR, Jaipur, Uttar Pradesh, and Bengaluru earlier in April. These threats sparked widespread panic, but investigations revealed them to be false alarms.
The Delhi High Court sought a detailed report on the school bomb threat incidents, leading to the Delhi Police submitting a report on May 17th. The report highlighted the deployment of five bomb disposal squads and 18 bomb detection teams across the city.
To address the recent surge in transnational organized cybercrimes originating from South East Asian nations like Cambodia, the Indian government has formed an inter-ministerial committee comprising various law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) CEO, Rajesh Kumar, revealed that the recent spate of bomb threat emails directed at schools, hospitals, and airports across India were sent utilizing VPNs (virtual private networks). He added that investigative agencies were actively collaborating with multiple countries to identify the individuals responsible for these threats.
