Bangladesh MP Murder: Flesh Found in Septic Tank, DNA Tests Planned
  • Four kilograms of flesh discovered in septic tank of housing complex
  • Flesh suspected to belong to murdered Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar
  • DNA testing of blood found in flat considered to confirm identity

Investigators searching for the body parts of murdered Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar discovered 4 kilograms of flesh in the septic tank of the New Town housing complex where he was killed on May 13.

The flesh is suspected to be that of the MP, whose body was skinned and chopped after he was smothered to death. Investigators believe the flesh was flushed down the commode and ended up in the septic tank.

The discovery was made after Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detective branch chief Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid asked CID officers to check the septic tank after interrogating Bangladeshi butcher Jihad Howladar, who was arrested by CID.

Rashid has also asked investigators to search a water body near the complex and a canal with a wooden bridge. Bangladesh Police is considering conducting DNA tests of blood found in the flat to match the results with that of the Bangladesh MP's kin.

The investigation has revealed that there had been two earlier attempts on Azim's life and that the killers had been trailing him for a long time. Between January and May, Azim visited Kolkata three times, and on each occasion, the killers also traveled to the city.

Azim first arrived in Kolkata from Bangladesh on January 19, and key conspirator Akhtaruzzaman alias Shaheen arrived a day earlier. The same day, Bhuiyan, who executed the murder plan, also came to Kolkata.

Two days later, Celesty Rahman, now in custody, also arrived. Azim returned to Bangladesh on January 24, while Shaheen and Celesty left on January 30.

Shaheen next arrived in Kolkata on March 16, two days before Azim, who came on March 18. Bangladesh police reported that another woman had accompanied Celesty during her travel to and from India.
