Alappuzha Braces for Heavy Rainfall, Administration on High Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Alappuzha district of Kerala for three days from Sunday, May 19 to Tuesday, May 21. An orange alert has also been declared for the district on Wednesday, May 22 and Thursday, May 23.

In view of the alert, the district administration has been put on high alert and has taken several measures to prepare for any exigency. The administration has identified buildings that could be used as relief camps during emergencies and has asked Tahsildars to ensure power supply and drinking water in these buildings.

As of Sunday evening, no major rain-related incidents had been reported from anywhere in the district. However, the administration has urged the public to be cautious and to take necessary precautions.

Meanwhile, local bodies across the district have completed a two-day mega-cleaning drive in preparation for the monsoon season. The campaign, which was held with public participation, included cleaning activities at all 52 wards in the Alappuzha municipality.
